Learn how fossil fuel power plants are providing a large proportion of power for Southern California during this tour of Encina Power Plant. Cameras welcomed.

Date and Time

23 March 2013 - 11:00-12:30

Location

Carlsbad, United States - icon_popup  (See map)

Organiser

Organised by the USA - Southern California local network.

About this event

Presentation before tour (~30 minutes) will cover electrical energy production and distribution in California, communications flow, elements of a fossil fuel power plant, and the thermal steam cycle.

We plan to tour specific interesting areas of the plant, including the Turbine Deck and the older (1950’s) Control Room.  It has some newer components but is essentially an original 1950’s style control board.

We should be able to see into the recently upgraded Unit 3 and 4 Control Room.

There will be ample opportunity to ask specific questions as we tour.

12:30 PST to 2:00 PST - optional lunch (not covered) - Bistro West
