About this event

The JET facility at Culham is one of the world’s foremost fusion research centres and is continuing to advance developments needed for the next generation of fusion (energy for the future) reactors such as ITER and DEMO. The event will start with a short introduction (tea and coffee provided) and a lecture on fusion energy, followed by an extensive tour of JET and the MAST fusion experiment.

An introduction to fusion is available at http://www.ccfe.ac.uk/introduction.aspx along with a brochure which can be downloaded.

Programme

18.45  Introductory talk on fusion
19.15 to 21.15 Tour of JET and MAST fusion experiments.

Additional information

There will be a significant amount of brisk walking during the evening (3-4 km of walking and standing) so it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes.  Please also note that open-toe shoes are strictly forbidden in one of the experimental areas, so please ensure ALL visitors wear covered footwear.

Although there are no restrictions on children attending the Culham Open Evenings, the talk and tours are quite technical and it is suggested that the level of understanding is more suitable for those aged from 14 years upwards.

Please note that photography is permitted throughout the tours.
