About this event

The 400 kV Substation at Penwortham, near Preston is the focal point of the National Grid Network for electricity supplies for Lancashire and beyond. It was first commissioned in the 1960’s and has been modernised and extended over the ensuing years. It now consists of 21 switch bays, transformers and quad boosters. It supplies the local 132 kV network.
Visitors will be able to view some of the original equipment and the evolution of equipment up to the present day and learn of the important role it plays in the national 400 kV network.
Numbers are limited so early application advised.
