The European Union aims to increase the proportion of freight being carried by rail so the emission targets are met and the congestion on roads associated with road freight is avoided. The FP7 SUSTRAIL project aims to address a broad range of issues linked with innovations in rolling stock, freight vehicles and track components. The Universi-ties of Sheffield and Huddersfield are among the 29 partners carrying out the work and the speaker will present the analysis and practical results related to several engineering challenges.
