The UK’s reluctance to embrace the latest standards will be highlighted. “The Bad”. The presentation will outline the reasoning for machinery safety and how the legislation such as EN ISO 13849-1 impacts upon machine builders and end-users. The basic principles of optical sensors will be explained, before moving onto explain how to implement advanced optical or mechanical guarding of a danger point, a perimeter, access or of a danger zone. Lasers will also feature in an introduction on how to use safety laser scanning as an alternative to more conventional light guards, light curtains or mechanical guard. Finally some examples will be shown for their comic effect. “The Ugly”.
