Organised by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire local network.

About this event

London Luton Airport is the UK's 5th largest passenger airport with passenger numbers of over 9 million during the 2009. It employs over 500 people directly and around 8,000 indirectly and is one of the major economic drivers of the regional economy.

The airport opened in 1938 and during the war years the airport operated as a commercial aerodrome as well as being the base for 264 Fighter Squadron. It was an important manufacturing site at which the Percival Aircraft Company designed and built a number of aircraft - including the famous Mosquito - which was built under licence from De Havilland, and which can be seen on our visit later in the season to the Mosquito Museum.

The airport now offers passengers both scheduled and charter services to over 90 destinations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

We’ll be visiting airside, seeing airfield operations, touring the operations room and seeing some the IT systems used.

Visit starts at 10:30 for approximately 2 hours.
