SMART-1 – Europe's first mission to the moon!
Lecture 24 March 2010, Portsmouth, UKThe lecture describes SMART-1, Europe's first mission to the Moon (Europe here being defined as western Europe). SMART missions are engineering test beds to test and develop new technologies. SMART-1 was the first of these missions (and currently still the only one to have flown). The speaker will describe the basics of the technology behind the ion engine and also some of the results from the UK technology demonstration camera flown on SMART-1.
