About this event

Employers have consistently placed the shortage of STEM skilled applicants as the major barrier to growth.  Attempts to address this within UK schools have been ineffectual.  The Government now has a Digital Strategy with an emphasis on Digital Skills.  Back in the 1980s a generation of youngsters was turned on through programming UK-made devices like the BBC Micro, Sinclair Spectrum and RM Nimbus.  We are now in an era where powerful electronic gadgets are commonplace and cheap.  The IET is a partner in the exciting development by the BBC of the micro:bit.  In this talk we will consider a range of inspirational new technologies and how they might be used to inspire a new generation of technologists.
