About this event

This course introduces the fundamentals of content protection in sufficient detail to provide the basis for beginning to evaluate, select, purchase, implement and operate this technology. It is aimed at engineers and engineering managers with an interest in content protection, for example in a broadcast, cable or broadband environment.
The course includes the following:


• Fundamentals of cryptography; symmetric and asymmetric encryption
• Key length and security
• Pay TV system overview; encryption, key hierarchy and messages
• Conditional access data in DVB systems
• Entitlement types and addressing modes
• Set top box architecture
• Hardware security and smart cards
• Software security and cardless systems
• Conditional access modules
• Security renewal and downloadable security systems
• Interoperability; multicrypt and simulcrypt
• Digital rights management systems
• Fingerprinting, watermarking and revocation
• Causes of piracy, and pirate resources
• Historic pay TV piracy and current threats
• Legal issues and lessons to be learnt


The course will be presented by Graham Turner who has worked in the pay and digital TV technology field in a number of senior roles since the late 1980s. He is also currently Chairman of the IET’s Multimedia Communications Network executive committee.

Introduction to Content Protection is open to all registrants whether you are studying, working in the industry or just want to know more about content protection.
