Are you a railway professional who is not yet a Chartered Engineer? If so, the IET Railway Network invites you to submit a written abstract on Intelligent Mobility to our Best Paper competition. Finalists will be selected and invited to submit a full paper. Successful papers will be presented at the Finals where cash prizes will be rewarded to the winner and runner-up.

About this event

With ever-increasing demands on our transport network, and a customer base with increasing access to mobile communications and the Internet, the transport technology of the future is moving towards greater intelligence, autonomy and connectivity.

Are you a railway professional who is not yet a Chartered Engineer? If so, the IET Railway Network invites you to submit a written paper on Intelligent Mobility to our Best Paper competition.

Theme: Intelligent Mobility

Your paper could address some of the following questions:

• Has your work made a contribution to intelligent mobility?
• What technologies are you using?
• What benefits does the technology bring to customers, staff and society?
• Are they brand-new, or are you using existing technology to new advantage?
• What are the social, economic and environmental implications of your work?
• How does your idea fit into the wider transport system?
• Is it implemented, or just an idea?
• Does it work?
• Can you prove it works?
• What skills did you use to develop the idea?
• What are its strengths and weaknesses?
• What implications does your idea have for organisational change? 

Why should you enter?
• A chance to tell us about your ideas and your work
• A chance to get your work published by the IET
• Opportunities for mentoring and skill development
• All entrants will receive feedback on their work from the judges
• Prizes to be won
• Opportunity for professional networking and hearing about what your peers are up to

• 27 July 2014 – Submit an abstract of no more than 200 words giving a summary of your proposed paper
• 7 August 2014 – Judges rate abstracts, select finalists and invite them to submit a full paper
• 30 September 2014 – submission deadline for first drafts of papers
• 14 October 2014 – Judges provide feedback to finalists on their papers
• 14 November 2014 – Finalists submit their updated papers and their presentations
• 27 November 2014 – Finals Night
