About this event

In addition to highlighting how engineering is benefiting medicine and biology, it will also shine a light on how the engineers are transforming the industry. These efforts span the entire spectrum of Engineering Science; indeed systems engineering is of increasing importance and frequency.  

Illustrations will be drawn from mathematical modeling, novel devices, image and signal processing, diagnosis and therapy (including surgery and radiation therapy,) as well as nanotechnology and novel materials through to smart houses and beyond.

Speaker

Professor Sir Michael Brady is currently Professor in Oncological Imaging in the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford.  

Mike is the author of over 750 articles and 26 patents in computer vision, robotics, medical image analysis and artificial intelligence.  He was awarded the IEE Faraday Medal, the IEEE Third Millennium Medal for the UK, the Henry Dale Prize by the Royal Institution, and the Whittle Medal by the Royal Academy of Engineering.  Mike was knighted in the New Year’s honours list for 2003.

Mike has a strong commitment to commercialisation of science, and is currently Deputy Chairman of the FTSE 250 Company, Oxford Instruments plc.
