About this event

In the UK 'The Defence Information Infrastructure' (DII) programme is being developed to replace more than 300 different legacy systems installed in all three armed services. It is the largest IT project ever to be undertaken within the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The aim of the programme is to rationalise 200 separate systems into a single IT infrastructure. It will support all Ministry of Defence land based sites in the UK, permanent overseas sites, all maritime platforms and Royal Marine Commando Units as well as operational deployments.

As a result it will allow the MoD to develop, implement, operate, manage and deliver a wide range of IT services to its staff across the world. These include messaging, web-access, collaboration, office automation, data management, directory, interoperability, end-to-end service management, security and application hosting services.

Logistically some 150,000 terminals are being planned for delivery to about 300,000 users at 2,000 locations around the world.

Our presenter IET Fellow, Brian Dubrie, will discuss the benefits, challenges and opportunities associated with the delivery of DII.
