About this event

Maglev, or magnetic suspension technology to give its proper title, is a seemingly magical concept that often fascinates engineers and non-engineers alike. In fact Maglev is not a single technology but a family of technologies that have very different characteristics, advantages and disadvantages. Come and find out about these technologies, how they are being applied around the world and whether Maglev really will be a new transportation technology for the 21st century.

Speaker

Prof.Roger Goodall worked for a number of years for British Rail Research in Derby where he was involved in the UK Maglev programme that culminated in the worlds first operational Maglev system at Birmingham Airport. He is currently Professor of Control in the School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at Loughborough University. His research is focussed upon a variety of advanced technologies for ground transportation systems, including active railway vehicle suspensions, Maglev and a variety of other control-related projects.
