About this event

Present around the World (PATW) is the IET’s presentation competition for young engineers and technicians. Individual competitors give a presentation for 10 minutes on a subject related to engineering and technology and to answer questions for a further five minutes.

This year we are pleased to once again give the opportunity to students, apprentices or young engineering professionals to take part in this competition. The finalists will compete by giving us the following presentations:

  • Analysis of a Stand-Alone Hydraulic Offshore Wind Turbine
    by Daniel Buhagiar
  • Spatio-Temporal Models for Traffic and Air Pollution
    by Luana Chetcuti Zammit
  • Taxi Guidance Cueing for Low Visibility Operations
    by Evan Dimech
  • The challenge of multi-disciplinary trajectory optimisation in large multinational research programmes
    by Matthew Sammut
  • Doubly Fed Induction Machine Control In Wind Turbine Applications
    by Kris Scicluna
  • Mass customized architectural components via industrial robotic arm movement
    by Matthew Tanti
  • An Investigation on the Effect of Environmental Degradation on Glass Fibre Reinforced Composite Material Properties
    by David Oscar Vella

The emphasis is on the presenter's presentation skills rather than technical content, enabling competitors at varying levels of their studies or career to participate on an equal footing. Three judges will assess the presentations then decide on a winner and runner-up.

The runner-up will be given a cash prize of €100 whilst the the winner of the Malta heat will be awarded €150 and be given the opportunity to represent Malta at the regional IET Present around the World Competition. If they then go on to win this second stage, they will have the chance to compete for the fantastic grand prize of €1000 at the international final in London.
