About this event

Artificial limbs (prostheses)have been provided to amputees from least three thousand years until present times.   This lecture will look at the advances in artificial limb technology from the times of the ancient Egyptians until the present day.      It will discuss the problems that amputees face in wearing their prostheses and in their operation.  It will also consider the technological milestones in their development with particular emphasis on those limbs currently available to patients both for everyday use and for specialist applications. Future directions in their development as well as look into the use of prostheses for veterinary applications will also be discussed.
