About this event

This will be a talk relating to the Nuclear Power Industry by Mr Ian Cathro.  It will include an introduction to nuclear power together with an explanation of how it benefits the energy mix.  The talk also provides details of how an advanced gas reactor works.

About the speaker

Ian Cathro is the special projects manager at Torness power station. He has spent over 35 years with the company and 12 years at Torness.

He has a BSc (Hons 1st class) in Physics. He is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, and a member of the Institute of Nuclear Energy. He is also a Chartered Physicist and a member of the Institute of Physics.

Ian completed the Advanced Management Programme at Templeton College, Oxford and is Science and Engineering Ambassador.
Ian is 59 years old and is married to Jane. They have five children between them - Stuart, Laura, Jennifer Andrew and Anna.

He lives in Dunbar and enjoys all sports - especially golf, rugby union and skiing. He also likes reading, travel and walking his border collies. In his youth he played basketball for Scotland.

Ian's favourite sport is rugby.
