About this event

Motor sports bodies and manufacturers are rising to the key challenge of our time through the development and application of carbon reducing technologies. However, the application of greener technology does not mean the competitive edge is lost — these technologies can actually improve the performance of racing cars.

For the first time ever, the 2009 Formula 1 regulations allow for the adoption of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). These systems harness the energy usually lost through braking and convert it into additional power. When applied, this extra boost can assist overtaking manoeuvres and reduce lap times.

Jon Hilton of Flybrid Systems is at the forefront of applying this technology to Formula 1 racing teams. Jon is also looking at further applications of the technology, from other motor sports series and production vehicles to trains, where the potential for reducing CO2 emissions is enormous.

Jon will introduce the audience to the technology behind the system before looking at the application of the technology, with special reference to the coming Formula 1 season and other motor sports, before then discussing additional applications of the technology and the huge benefits that it can deliver.

Dinner and after-dinner speaker

Following the lecture there will be the formal dinner hosted by the IET President Chris Earnshaw.

Attend the dinner with friends and colleagues and hear from Azhar Hussain, the man behind the ‘worlds first clean emission carbon free Grand Prix’ – the TTX GP – taking place on the famous Isle of Man TT Circuit.

Azhar Hussain will tell us more about this race and how to get involved.
