About the Speaker
After the lunch Richard Morris, Managing Director, Delivery for the Crossrail Project will share his experiences of his career from a Management Trainee, offering an exclusive insight into the opportunities and challenges of a career in rail.
Having graduated from Exeter University (1970) with an Honours Degree in Classics Richard joined the railway as a Management Trainee. Following the two years training he undertook many roles in different parts of the country – almost all concerned with the actual operation of the railway culminating, just before privatisation, as Operations Manager for the whole of British Rail (including responsibility and management of the Royal Train!).
In 1992 Richard joined Eurotunnel as Safety Director and following the fire became Operations Director. He then moved back to the National Railway with the Strategic Rail Authority as Executive Director for London’s railways. Following a return to the operating railway for a short spell Richard is now Managing Director, Delivery for the Crossrail Project.
Who should attend?
This event will be highly relevant to young engineers throughout the rail industry, particularly those who have recently graduated or are on training schemes. Students looking to progress into a career in rail will also benefit from attendance, through meeting other young people with real-life experiences. Senior engineers with more experience are also invited to attend, the event providing an opportunity to meet the engineers of the future.
This event has been postponed and will be run in association with the IET Younger Member Best Paper Competition in November 2008.
