Introduction
The energy sector faces major challenges over the coming decades. Huge investments in new generation and network replacement and network enhancement are required, just at a time when approximately 40% of the people with the necessary skills approach retirement. Recently, attracting new entrants, as well as educating, training and then retaining them has proved challenging. The potential lack of future skills therefore poses a significant threat to security of supply and the ability to deliver the desired outcome of reducing CO2 emissions.
The key objectives
- Review future skills requirements in the energy sector including;
- Building and operation of new electricity generating equipment
- Replacement, enhancement and operation of networks
- Delivery of energy efficiency
- Demand side management
- Consider the future skills availability
- Highlight current positive initiatives, successes and lessons learnt
Key benefits
- Improved knowledge for all power industry stakeholders to plan for the future
- An opportunity to share data and ideas
- A means of bringing together all stakeholders in the electricity industry (plus related sectors)
Who should attend
- UK electricity sector and related stakeholders
- HR professionals
- Generation operators
- Network companies
- Supply companies
- Power plant suppliers
- Generation developers
- Financiers
