Introduction
Many downsizing organisations are seeking to manage their electrical assets with minimal numbers of competent electrical managers and staff. This is of major concern to industry professionals. The IET is addressing these issues in this seminar, highlighting deficiencies and suggesting successful solutions, which can be applied.
The growth of dispersed generation and multi site utilisation threatens to increase the gap between established safe working practices and perceived ‘economic’ solutions. Concern is further increasing with the rise of active networks as customers seek to work interactively with suppliers of renewable generation. In addition to this, the use PPE is being advocated to protect operators against possible arc flash burns. We ask when is this necessary?
About this event
The aim of this seminar is to discuss the design and implementation of safety management frameworks to minimise the possibilities of injury on electrical power systems and ensure as far as possible, organisations are in a legally defendable position. The following areas will be discussed: safety management, design and installation of equipment, standards and integrity (BS-7671 2008), safety rules, availability and maintainability (HV & LV), Arc flash burns, PPE and arc containment, risk assessment, fault capability, machinery and process safety, emergency procedures and communications.
Who should attend
Senior management, middle management and senior engineers in the following industrial sectors:
- Large power consuming plants
- Dispersed generation contractors and operators
- Mass transit operators
- Airport management
- Hospital and estate management companies
- Dispersed installations (industrial, commercial and retail)
- Multiple site management organisations
- Water and sewage industries
Benefits of attending
Attendees will be made aware of the need for comprehensive safety management systems and procedures to manage safety on all operations on their electrical systems, particularly when spread across multiple sites and integrated with active sources.
Implementing the sound systems outlined will reduce individual’s risk of prosecution and also the subsequent major business losses to their companies.
