Introduction
This technical visit to the Didcot power stations of RWE npower will allow delegates a chance to see the operations at two contrasting power stations.
Didcot A is a 2,000MW coal-fired power station in Oxfordshire. Coal is normally delivered by rail and has the capability to burn gas on three of the four generating units. In addition, Didcot A runs a community support scheme, runs guided tours for younger students, has increased the levels of biomass burnt and has also installed a pulverised fuel ash (PFA) reprocessing plant (STI) which reduces carbon content.
Didcot B is a 1,400MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant in Oxfordshire that burns natural gas. Didcot B is a very efficient power plant which operates to the highest environmental standards.
For more info on particular power stations please see the official RWE website.
