About this event
Over the past 20 years the electricity utilities around the world have changed dramatically, generation and supply have become competitive with markets established to facilitate trading between buyer and seller. The networks connecting generation and supply have also changed but remain a monopoly activity with regulation activity as a surrogate for competition.
As these separate markets have matured with generators, suppliers and traders dealing in electricity as a commodity, the benefits of being able to trade into other markets has become apparent. The interconnection of networks to facilitate this desire for more global trading has become the next evolutionary step in the industry.
The interconnection of networks establishes large power systems which present both operational and technical challenges to support this extended trading opportunities whilst at the same time maintaining security of supply.
