About this event

The address will review the fundamental changes now being faced by electricity grids in Britain, across Europe, and beyond. What are the drivers creating this radical change; how will it affect end customers and the industry; how well is the UK placed, and what are the risks and opportunities ahead.

Speaker biography

John Scott

John Scott joined KEMA Consulting in January 2008 having previously been the Technical Director for Ofgem, the British gas and electricity regulator. Earlier in his career John was Director of Engineering for National Grid Company in the UK.

In his present role he has a lead responsibility for Network Innovation working in close collaboration with KEMA colleagues and clients internationally. This area of work includes Smart Grids and their development in Europe and globally. In support of concrete developments, his focus goes beyond technology and includes commercial, regulatory and management aspects of innovation on networks. He is also actively engaged in asset management and regulatory price control matters.

The IET Power Networks Research Academy

This year’s Hunter Memorial Lecture is preceded by a short presentation to launch the IET Power Networks Research Academy

The IET Power Networks Research Academy has four new PhD research scholarships in Electrical Engineering available at the following partner universities: Cardiff University, Imperial College London, University of Manchester and University of Strathclyde.

What is the Power Networks Research Academy?

The IET Power Networks Research Academy has brought together 5 leading power companies, 6 universities, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Engineering Physical Sciences Research Council in order to provide outstanding first degree UK graduates with support and finance for a PhD high-status postgraduate research studentship.
