Introduction

This workshop is intended for engineers and project managers interested in the stringent electromagnetic (EM) certification requirements for modern aircraft and avionics systems, including requirements definition, design and test techniques. A range of EM environments are considered including high intensity radiated fields (HIRF), lightning (direct and indirect), emissions, and interoperability. The workshop covers both the civil and military requirements.

Cost

Programme

Day 1
The work of the civil HIRF committees, military Release to Service (RTS), defining the electromagnetic environment, routes to compliance (civil and military), hazard analysis, qualification testing, and an introduction to equipment level test techniques

Day 2
Aircraft Electromagnetic test techniques, data processing and a visit to the UK’s centre of excellence for military aircraft release located at Boscombe Down. This visit includes practical demonstrations of EM test techniques on both avionic equipment and whole aircraft. Course Dinner (included in delegate fee)

Day 3
Direct and indirect effects of lightning, design, manufacturers experience and a tour of some of the QinetiQ Electromagnetic and Environmental Services (EMES) test facilities

Day 4
A half day with topics including Non ionising radiation hazards, armaments and weapons requirements, maintenance and future challenges

All days are fully interactive with time allowed for worked examples, discussion and questions for the principle lecturers. Prof. Nigel Carter returns to provide some of the lectures and will be available throughout the duration of the workshop. Prof. Carter has over 40 years of aircraft EMC experience and will be accompanied by other key speakers from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), QinetiQ and other Industry partners.
