Skylon Lecture 2012

The Skylon solution for better space transportation. View the presentation from Alan Bond who discussed the SABRE engines and development of the technology.

Alan Bond's presentation covered the need for better space transportation and the SKYLON solution to the problem.

He talked briefly about the Skylon vehicle and mainly about the SABRE engines, which are a hybrid of jet and rocket engines, able to air breath up to Mach 5 and then transition to using on-board oxygen for the final ascent to orbit.

The talk also covered the principles of the engine and the large experimental programme going on at Reaction Engines to develop its technology, concluding some time scales and programme forecasts for the project.
