Media training for engineers and technologists

One day course

Do you want to publicise your work or company more effectively? Do you want to avoid mistakes in print? This course is aimed at engineers and technologists with little or no experience in dealing with the press. It gives delegates practical, useful advice about how to communicate with the media and how to ensure they get accurate and extensive coverage. The course is suitable for all engineers and technologists, whether at universities, research institutes or working in industry. 

A small amount of prior preparation will be required. 

Objectives

  • An introduction to the press;
  • What makes a story?;
  • Writing a press release;
  • Writing a technical article;
  • How to talk to journalists.

Programme outline

  • Learn how to communicate and build a relationship with the press;
  • Tips on how to write an article for a magazine;
  • Information on how to increase the chance of getting your article published;
  • Provide guidance on how to write a press release;
  • Tips on interview techniques that mean you stay in control of the conversation when a journalist calls.

All delegates will receive refreshments, lunch and literature on the day.
