City and Guilds 2382-20 exam

17th Edition upgrade qualification, arranged by the IET

If you hold a City & Guilds certificate from 2001-2007 you may like to attend our one day workshop before taking this exam.  Please see the link to the right of this page for further information.

To be eligible to take this exam candidates must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: June 2001 (2381), or;
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Installation (Building and Structures) (2330-07), or;
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology Electrical Maintenance (2330-08), or;
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Installation Part Two (2360) (from 1 January 2004 onwards only), or;
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Knowledge of Electrical Installation Engineering (2351) (only if achieved as part of an Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship completed post 1 January 2004).

As part of the booking process delegates must submit a copy of their certificate and their candidate enrolment number. This can be found at the bottom of the certificate and is in alpha-numeric form i.e. ABCD123.

City & Guilds 2382-20 is a multiple-choice test of 30 questions with a maximum of one hour allowed. The test is computer based; you will receive a printed result on completion of the test. In order to familiarise yourself with the new test procedure, you have the opportunity to sit a ten minute navigational test beforehand.

Required publication

Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 2008 (red version).  You can refer to this throughout the City & Guilds 2382 exam. Its full price is £75 but if you have registered on a course with the IET you are entitled to a 20 per cent discount taking the price to £60.
