Mapping Cisco Career Certifications to categories of membership
Cisco-certified professionals are eligible for fast-track entry to IET membership with a current Cisco certification and an up-to-date CV. Cisco certification removes the need for membership applicants to find a supporter (a colleague that can endorse your application) because it demonstrates your commitment to professionalism and provides independent verification of your qualifications.
Cisco offers three levels of general certification representing increasing levels of expertise: Associate, Professional, and Expert (CCIE™). Different tracks across these levels align with varying career needs. A variety of Specialist certifications are also available to show knowledge in specific technologies, solutions or job roles.
Cisco’s certification levels have been mapped against the IET’s membership categories however any additional qualifications or experience you hold will also be taken into consideration before you will be assigned the most suitable one for you. Generally Member (MIET) is most suited to professionals working at graduate level, while Technician Member (TMIET) ideal for professionals working within technical roles. Depending on the category, you will be able to use the designatory letters MIET or TMIET to demonstrate your professional status and the type of work you do to clients, employers or peers.
The above diagram indicates the most likely level of membership you may be awarded based on the Cisco Certification you hold; the brackets suggest an alternative level that may be more appropriate based on further review of your qualifications and experience.
