Games and graphics hardware technology opening ceremony

Friday February 23rd 2007 saw the prestigious opening ceremony in the School of Electronic, Communication and Electrical Engineering, University of Hertfordshire.  Head of School, Professor Reza Sotudeh opened the ceremony with a welcome to Microsoft, Sony and Soundcraft who are the three main partners in this Degree course.

Reza explained how Technology has rapidly evolved over the last ten years to an extent that we all now use high technology equipment in our daily lives. There were several working displays of how modern technology has been brought to the masses.

Home automation

Professor Talib Alukaidey talked about technology in the modern home and explained how students would learn about these technologies.

3D projection

A presentation of 3D projection was given, to great effect.

Technology partners

Sarah Lemarié from Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Dr Andrew Sithers from Microsoft talked about the important alliance with our University and how working with them will enable students to develop skills in this rapidly expanding business.

Opening ceremony

Professor Wendy Purcell Deputy Vice Chancellor performed the opening ceremony by accepting the contracts with Microsoft and Sony.

Student opportunities

In the afternoon both Microsoft and Sony gave presentations of their games consoles and talked about software development tools and how their hardware also opened up possibilities with medical imaging solutions due to the graphics power now offered by their consoles. 

At the end of the presentations students were given the opportunity to put forward questions and had an opportunity to try out both games consoles.
