Fleet Air Arm Special Registration Agreement

CEng, IEng and EngTech special registration agreements for Royal Navy air engineering personnel.

Membership

You will need to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration. For more information please visit the Armed Forces IET Membership page.

The IET has mapped out certain job roles and career pathways to the requirements for professional registration, resulting in a Special Registration Agreement (SRA).

Eligibility criteria

These routes have been defined by a series of benchmarks which form the eligibility criteria for each category of registration as follows:

CEng

Criteria:

  • Hold the substantive rank of Lieutenant or above;
  • Have completed a Deputy Air Engineer Officer post or appointment holding similar levels of responsibility.

Evidence required to demonstrate underpinning knowledge for required for Registration as CEng: 

  • An accredited Bachelors degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Masters degree accredited by a professional engineering institution, or appropriate further learning to Masters level;

or 

  • An accredited integrated MEng degree;

or

  • Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET of achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

IEng

Criteria:

  • Hold the substantive rank of at least Chief Petty Officer Air Engineer Technician (CPOAET);
  • Have been awarded the Aircraft Certificate of Competency and held MAP-01 Level G and H authorisations;
  • Have completed a Technical Engineering Appointment in the substantive rank, post completion of training, for at least 2 years;

Evidence required to demonstrate underpinning knowledge required for Registration as IEng:

  • An appropriate Bachelors degree in engineering or technology;

or

  • Higher National Certificate or Diploma or a Foundation Degree in engineering or technology, plus evidence of appropriate additional learning, including work-based learning;

or

  • Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET of achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

EngTech

  • Hold a NVQ L3 qualification in their trade or be post-Certificate of Competency to Supervise Aircraft Maintenance Leading Air Engineering Technician.

Evidence required to demonstrate underpinning knowledge required for Registration as EngTech:

  • Completion of a programme leading to NVQ L3; or a suitable qualification at QCF3 (or SCQF or EQF equivalent) or above;

or

  • Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

Once you have established that you meet the criteria above, you are eligible to apply for professional registration. You are required to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration through this route. Prior to submitting your application, please contact the Scheme Coordinator to confirm eligibility; once confirmed they will complete an endorsement form which should be submitted to the IET with your application. This is included in the application pack.
