To avoid duplication for applicants in demonstrating competence the IET has recognised the particularly rigorous internal training and competence assessment systems employed by the RAF and has been able to use this to underpin part of the IET process for registration applications.

A specially tailored application form has been designed for applicants following this route which takes into account the RAF's internal assessment systems.

Eligibility criteria

These routes have been defined by a series of benchmarks which form the eligibility criteria for each category of professional registration as follows:

CEng

Criteria

Current serving member of the RAF Engineer Branch;
An RAF Engineer Officer holding a minimum rank of Squadron Leader and have completed at least one tour in that rank with engineering responsibility;
Attend an IET professional review interview.

IEng

Criteria

Current serving member of the RAF Engineer Branch;
Hold the rank of Flight Lieutenant and have completed a second foundation tour with engineering responsibility;
Attend an IET professional review interview.

You are required to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration, if you are not already a member, you may join at the same time as applying for registration by completing the relevant section on the application form.
