Royal Signals Special Registration Agreement

RSIGNALS routes to CEng, IEng and ICTTech and EngTech.

Membership

You will need to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration. For more information please visit the Armed Forces IET Membership page.

Apply for professional registration

There are various routes available for RSIGNALS personnel. Please find below the special registration agreement for CEng, IEng, ICTTech and EngTech.

Personnel who have completed an apprenticeship within the last two years can apply through a series of approved apprenticeship pathways for ICTTech.

Once you have established that you meet the criteria laid out below, you are eligible to apply for professional registration.

Royal Signals special registration agreement

Eligibility criteria

These routes have been defined by a series of benchmarks which form the eligibility criteria for each category of registration as follows:

CEng

Criteria:

Hold the substantive rank of at least Warrant Officer in the Royal Signals in an engineering supervisory trade or Major for Direct Entry officers.

Technical Officer (TOT)

Have demonstrated CEng competence including underpinning knowledge through FofS service and more than three years technical engineering experience in role as commissioned TOT. Late Entry commissioned rank Captain, Major, Lieutenant Colonel (or as a Warrant Officer FofS in exceptional cases).

Technical Officer Telecommunications (Information Systems) (TOT(IS))

Have demonstrated CEng competence including underpinning knowledge through FofS(IS) service and more than four years technical engineering experience in the role as a commissioned TOT (IS). Late Entry commissioned rank Captain, Major or Lieutenant Colonel (or as a Warrant Officer FofS in exceptional cases).

Direct Entry Officer

Hold the minimum rank of Major with proven capability in at least two technical SO2 appointments underpinned by an accredited technical Masters degree or equivalent technical Master level learning;

Or

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

IEng

Criteria:

Hold the substantive rank of at least SSgt in the Royal Signals in an engineering supervisory trade or Capt as a Direct Entry officer;

Have completed at least one technical engineering appointment, post completion of training, in the minimum substantive rank for at least 2 years.

Foreman of Signals (FofS)

Completion of the FofS course including the successful completion of the linked Bachelors Degree and two year subsequent experience in the role

Foreman of Signals Information Systems (FofS(IS))

Completion of the FofS (IS) course including successful completion of the linked Bachelors Degree and more than three years subsequent in the role

Captain (Direct Entry)

Demonstrated technical capability in engineering underpinned by a relevant Bachelors Degree or technical Bachelor level learning. Must have completed Troop Commanders course, plus on year Royal Signals Field Squadron. Minimum of total of four years’ service following RMAS (Sandhurst) Commissioning Course;

Or

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

ICT Technician (ICT Tech)

Communication Systems Engineer (Non-Supervisory) or Installation Technician

Class Three training completed plus two years’ service in trade and completion of the ICT Tech workbook or Class One training completed.

Communication Systems Operator (CS Op) or CS Op EW (Electronic Warfare)

At rank of Sgt- Class Three Trade Training plus three years experience in trade (including attaining Class Two) and completion of the ICT Tech workbook. At rank of SSgt – Class One training with at least three years’ service after Phase 2 training.

Yeoman of Signals (YofS) or YofS Electronic Warfare (EW);

On appointment.

Or

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.

 

Engineering Technician (EngTech)

A suitable qualification at QCF3 (or SCQF or EQF equivalent or above)

Or

Clear demonstration to the satisfaction of the IET achievement of the same level of knowledge and understanding as the above.
