To avoid duplication for applicants in demonstrating competence the IET has recognised the particularly rigorous internal training and competence assessment systems employed by REME and has been able to use this to underpin part of the IET process for registration applications.

A specially tailored application form has been designed for applicants following this route which takes into account REME's internal assessments systems.

Eligibility criteria

These routes have been defined by a series of benchmarks which form the eligibility criteria for each category of registration as follows:

CEng

Criteria:

• Current serving member of REME;
• A Light Aid Detachment (LAD) Commander with an accredited MEng degree (those without an accredited MEng must have completed one tour of duty in an engineering function after their first LAD Command);
• Have been selected for promotion to Major and have successfully completed a REME PRI.

IEng

Criteria:

• Current serving member of REME;
• Have been appointed (currently or previously) as a Platoon Commander and have successfully completed their Land Systems Engineering Officer (land equipment);
• Have successfully passed the Engineering Officer (Land Equipment) professional  review boards leading to the award of Engineering Officer (EngO) designation and will have had the standard IET PRI report form completed at their professional review and certification board.

or

• Current serving member of REME;
• A REME Artificer who has been promoted to Warrant Officer or commissioned and successfully completed a REME PRI.

EngTech

Criteria:

• Current serving member of REME in a technical trade;
• Have successfully completed their Class 1 course.

(PRI is not mandatory for EngTech but may be requested in exceptional cases).

Once you have established that you meet the criteria above, you can apply for professional registration.  You are required to become a member of the IET before applying for professional registration, if you are not already a member, you may join at the same time as applying for registration by completing the relevant section on the application form.
