Professional registration

Becoming professionally registered shows your peers and employers that you have demonstrated professional competence; it is an important milestone for any engineer or technologist. The IET is licensed by the Engineering Council to award the professional engineering qualifications defined in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) and the Information and Communications Technology Technician standard (ICTTech).

Categories of professional registration

See further details of each category below:

Maintaining your professional registration

Currently there are no requirements for re-assessment once professional registration has been granted, and you will remain on the Engineering Council register whilst you remain a member of a licensed body. Joining the register confirms your commitment to both the Engineering Council’s professional ethics (comprising Guidelines for Institution's Codes of Conduct) and the IET Rules of Conduct and your obligation to remain professionally competent through continued professional development (CPD).

Membership

If you are ready to apply for professional registration and are not already a member you are able to apply for membership and professional registration at the same time using the appropriate professional registration form.

You are also able to apply for membership whilst working towards your professional registration.

Armed forces IET membership provides you with a professional home for life. It allows you to engage with the IET global engineering and technology community and access essential products and services.
