Answers to common queries with regards to Graduate Advantage membership.
Graduate Advantage is a membership package to help engineering and technology students during the transition from university to employment and for upgrading their membership from Student to Member MIET (relevant course and qualifications required).
The main benefits of Graduate Advantage are that it helps students, preparing for the days after graduation to continue to gain access to all the resources of the IET. In addition it offers assistance and guidance on settling into your first professional role, applying for jobs and moving up to full MIET status (subject to meeting the member criteria) allowing you to use the MIET letters after your name - all at a significantly reduced rate at a time when we know you are most likely to be struggling for money.
Current IET Student Members within their final year of study will be auto-enrolled into IET Graduate Advantage 9 months prior to your course end date and your next membership renewal will automatically be offered to you at £20 for the year after graduation. Eligible new members can also sign up for IET membership on the Graduate Advantage package for £20 as long as they are in their final year of study or a graduate within 12 months of their course end date.
Graduate Advantage already offers membership at a greatly reduced rate, less than the current Low Income subscription rate and therefore no further discounts can be applied to this rate.
Once you are entered on to the Graduate Advantage membership package, you will receive a welcome pack which contains: Letter welcoming you to the IET and presentation folder containing your Graduate Advantage and IET Advantage brochures giving more detail about the programme with checklists on how best to use your membership. If you have registered an email address with us, you'll also receive our Graduate Advantage tailored email communications, which provide in depth advice about finishing your studies, finding employment and settling into your first professional role. An current student member will also receive a certifying letter confirming their student membership of the IET.
When you have finished your degree and upgraded your membership to MIET (subject to assessment) you will receive a transfer pack containing an MIET certificate, employer awareness pack, details of the Young Professional Buddy scheme and the next steps.

If you are going to be studying full-time you may decide to stay or join as a student member and then sign up to Graduate Advantage later, once you are in your final year of your post graduate course. If you are going to be a part-time post graduate student then you will not be eligible to continue as a student member and should sign up to Graduate Advantage.
