Scottish and Southern Energy
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), a British owned FTSE 100 company, is one of the largest energy companies in the UK.
Its business is the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity to industrial, commercial and domestic customers, energy trading, gas marketing, gas storage, electrical and utility contracting and telecommunications. Its two distribution networks comprise 123,000kms of underground cable and overhead lines, delivering power to nearly 30% of the country's landmass, serving 3.3 million customers.
SSE also operates a high voltage 132kV and 275kV transmission business in the north of Scotland. Generating around 10% of the electricity generated in the UK, SSE is the largest generator from renewable sources and is the fourth largest energy supplier with regional brands Southern Electric, SWALEC and Scottish Hydro-Electric supplying 5.5m customers.
