A product, proof of concept, prototype or piece of intellectual property which consists of a significant amount of new electronic hardware design (either analogue, digital or both).
 
For example a semiconductor design or piece of semiconductor intellectual property, a new  design based on programmable or configurable components such as Field Programmable Gate Arrays, embedded Microprocessors or Digital Signal Processors or a novel new system architecture based on standard components.
 
This category does not include new software tools for the design of electronics or a system built using embedded software applications running on standard off the shelf hardware (e.g. an embedded PC). These should be submitted in the Software in design  category.
