Jubilee, Faraday and Bill Kerss scholarships
What are they?
The Jubilee, Faraday & Bill Kerss Scholarships are open to students who will achieve a minimum of three 'A' grades at GCE 'A' level or five 'A' grades SCE Highers or at least three 'A' grade Advanced Higher (or equivalent). Students holding International Baccalaureate and the Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher) will also be considered. The Scholarships are open to students who will commence their UK accredited MEng degree or a course covered under the terms of the mutual accreditation agreement with the IEI in the Republic of Ireland, in the next academic Session.
IET Jubilee Scholarship
The IET Jubilee Scholarships were established in 1977 in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Her Majesty's accession to the throne with the intention that they should assist outstanding students to obtain professional qualifications in electrical, electronic, IT, manufacturing or related engineering. Scholarship holders who satisfactorily complete their course of study may use the title 'IET Scholar'.
BP/IET Faraday Lecture Scholarship
The BP/IET Faraday Lecture Scholarship was endowed in 1981 by the Lecturers and production team from BP plc, sponsors of the 1980/81 Faraday Lecture. It aims to encourage able young people into the engineering profession. Scholarship holders who satisfactorily complete their course of study may use the title 'Faraday Scholar'.
Bill Kerss Scholarship
A scholarship fund in the memory of Bill Kerss was established in 1998 for the benefit of young engineers. This scholarship is available for award every four years. Bill Kerss, FIEE, was a member of the Institution for more than 40 years and spent his working life in the electricity supply industry. He was Chairman of the Power Division in 1995/96 and was National Grid’s first Chief Executive.
The IET is offering eleven IET Jubilee Scholarships, one BP/IET Faraday Lecture Scholarship and one Bill Kerss to students of outstanding ability. The IET Jubilee Scholarships are worth £1,000 per annum, and the BP/IET Faraday Lecture Scholarship is worth £3,000 per annum, tenable for the period of an accredited MEng degree course.
