D H Thomas Travel Bursary

Regulations & who should apply?

  1. Applicants must be members of the IET.

  2. The Bursary will provide financial support in order to enable a member to undertake research in Europe (preferably in Germany) related to either their postgraduate education or their professional interests (for example, historical or biographical work leading to a publication). The award is open to members wishing to broaden their professional experience through undertaking a study tour, working in industry or participating in a European conference or seminar.

  3. It is intended that the Bursary will be used to fund travel necessary to further the research being undertaken, to fund maintenance costs and to cover fees for access to libraries and appropriate institutions.

  4. Applications for travel already undertaken will not be considered.

  5. The successful applicant will be required to provide a professional report of up to 1000 words on his or her experiences and the contribution the award has made to the research being undertaken. This may be published in an IET magazine.

  6. The successful applicant must notify the IET if there should be any change to the proposed date of the visit, the itinerary or the venue for which the Bursary was obtained.

  7. Decisions reached will be regarded as final and correspondence relating to the allocation of awards will not be entered into once the results have been announced.
