Hudswell Bequest Fellowships
What are they?
In his will the late P S Hudswell, a former IET Associate Member, left a substantial bequest to provide awards in support of research undertaken by members in the fields of electrical, electronic, manufacturing or information engineering. The Hudswell Bequest Fellowships were established by the IET in 1968 to fund travel overseas in direct connection with research for a higher degree undertaken in the United Kingdom.
Awards may only be made to IET members who are registered as either full time or part time (full fee paying) research students within the United Kingdom. The Fellowships are intended to assist members who will undertake study visits of at least one month's duration.
In assessing applications, the IET will take into account such factors as:
- the soundness and worthiness of the applicant's ideas in relation to the purpose for which the money would be used, if awarded,
- the applicant's research promise and evidence of ability,
- whether or not there is a genuine need for the award (in so far as assistance is not available from conventional sources of finance).
Four Fellowships, worth up to £1000, are available annually.
