Conditions and how to apply
Information
The prize will be awarded annually to the student on a taught MSc programme who has submitted the best MSc project dissertation in the general field of Healthcare Technology and cognate subjects (including Biomedical Engineering and Health Informatics). The purpose of the prize is to encourage and reward excellence in the field of study. The dissertation may focus on analysis, design, clinical application or other relevant aspect of healthcare technology.
Application and Judging Process
- All UK institutions offering a relevant MSc programme (or equivalent postgraduate course) are invited to nominate one student’s MSc dissertation, per programme, to be considered for the prize.
- The field of investigation of the dissertation shall be healthcare technology and cognate subjects (including biomedical engineering and health informatics).
- For each entry, the attached nomination form must be completed. This should be submitted to the IET by 25 July 2008. Any student may nominate themselves or be nominated by their academic department.
- The nominated entry should relate to a dissertation that has been submitted as part of the MSc programme in the 12 month period from July 2007 – July 2008.
- The submission should be an electronic copy of the dissertation, together with the completed nomination form (attached above).
- Papers will be judged on the originality and quality of their content as well as the writing style.
- Judging will take place during the summer of 2008. The panel of experts who will carry out the judging will be appointed by the Executive Team of the IET’s Healthcare Technologies Network.
- The award will be presented in December 2008 at the IET Healthcare Technologies Annual Lecture at Savoy Place, London.
- All entry information will remain confidential. It may be decided, at the discretion of the panel, that the award will not be presented in any particular year. The decision by the panel is final and not subject to appeal.

How to Submit
(i) Complete the attached nomination form, ensuring that contact details and summary of submission are completed
(ii) Email nomination form and electronic copy of the dissertation to Janine Mitchell by 25 July 2008. You will receive a confirmation email once received.
