Publishing expert joins IET

14 January 2010

Tim Hamer

A senior figure from the publishing world has joined the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as its new Director of Knowledge.

Tim Hamer joined the IET from Thomson Reuters where he was Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and UK General Manager of its scientific businesses. He began his career at Thomson in 1984 working for Van Nostrand Reinhold (UK) Ltd followed by a position at Chapman and Hall Ltd.  He then held a number of positions at the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) until being promoted to Managing Director of ISI Europe in 1998.

As Director of Knowledge, Tim, who graduated from Durham University in 1984 with BSc (Hons) Engineering Science and Management, will lead a team of over 200 personnel covering print and digital publishing, event management, and IET venues.

Tim said, “It’s a pleasure to have joined an organisation with such a depth of expertise, knowledge and resource as the IET.  I look forward to building on the great work that has already been achieved to ensure the IET retains its position as the ‘professional home for life’ for the science, engineering and technology community.”

The IET, as a registered charity, has a purpose to share knowledge for the advancement of science, engineering and technology.  One of the ways it does this is through knowledge sharing activities via a range of physical and online channels to a global audience.  These include magazines, journals, books, conference publications, the IEE Wiring Regulations, the Inspec database and a portfolio of global events.
