Waves of energy: the power of the future?
26 February 2008
The first full scale trial system for harnessing the power of the sea will be trialled off the coast of Harwich in Essex. Just how it works will be the subject of a lecture organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Speaker Hugh-Peter Kelly is the inventor of the tubular linear motor/generator, an ideal solution for capturing sea wave power and converting this into electricity and will trace from the initial concept to the building and testing of this Essex trial.
Marine renewable energy, and its potential contribution towards reducing global warming, is widely acknowledged.
IET Essex chairman, Mr Graham Smith, said, “Finding new ways to generate power which is clean and cost effective is a major challenge given the ‘state of the planet’. Mr Kelly has developed new and uncomplicated technology for harnessing the natural power of the sea.”
The event is on 5 March at the Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford and is hosted by Essex IET network
