IET and Accenture launch special CPD scheme to drive technical skills and standards in engineering
17 December 2007
The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and Leading IT consultancy Accenture have launched a new professional development scheme which will benchmark standards and promote the importance of Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. The special registration agreement will enable employees at Accenture, who already meet the UK-SPEC requirements, to fast-track to Chartered Engineer registration through the IET.
The IET has carefully reviewed the career development, assessment and appraisal systems at Accenture and recognises that these lead to an outstanding assessment of engineering competences and professional standards in accordance with UK-SPEC requirements set by the Engineering Council UK.
As a result the IET is able to allow candidates to fill in a simplified application form. Accenture Candidates applying via this scheme from today will find application for CEng is quicker and the reduced processing by the IET means that application can be handled faster. The agreement has been approved by the IET’s Registration and Standards Committee and is designed to encourage registration whilst the highest standards are maintained.
Robin McGill, chief executive of the IET said: “The IET is delighted to be working with Accenture to promote the importance of Chartered Engineer status. This globally recognised qualification demonstrates a technology professional’s competence and our recognition of the professional development scheme at Accenture recognises the company’s commitment to CPD and professionalism which underpins the title chartered engineer.
With more than a quarter of its 150,000 members employed in the IT industry, the Institution sets professional standards and provides a world-class programme of professional development activities, lectures and events.
