Details of the facilities now available to IET members at the IMechE's headquarters.
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) is providing a temporary London home for the IET for the duration of the Savoy Place upgrade project, at its headquarters in One Birdcage Walk:
One Birdcage Walk

The temporary co-location of the IET and the IMechE at One Birdcage Walk will enable the IET to retain a London presence and maintain its event portfolio and facilities for members.
In addition, sharing the building will also allow the two institutions to pursue closer working, for the good of the engineering profession.
Details of the facilities now available are included below.
Please note that the member business centre will be closed for maintenance on the following dates:
Monday, 3 February – Friday, 7 February (rooms 1- 4 only, computer lounge still accessible)
Monday, 10 February – Friday, 14 February (entire business centre closed)
Monday, 17 March – Friday, 21 March (entire business centre closed)
Computers will still be available in the joint IMechE and IET library at One Birdcage Walk (please see below for more information).
Please note that IET members should bring their IET membership card with them when visiting One Birdcage Walk, and present it at reception upon arrival.
IET members are able to book small meeting rooms (up to eight people) within the One Birdcage Walk member business centre for the period of the co-location free-of-charge. Four complimentary rooms are available and bookings can be made from 21 days in advance, subject to availability.
IET members wishing to book one of these rooms for a business meeting should contact the IMechE member booking line direct on +44 (0) 20 7973 1282. Standard terms and conditions apply and can be found on the IMechE website.
As at Savoy Place, One Birdcage Walk features a wide range of event spaces for members to hire for their own activities outside of the facilities within the member business centre. IET members are entitled to a 25 per cent reduction on room hire charges Monday to Friday during the co-location.
Members looking to place event bookings should contact the IMechE team directly on +44 (0) 20 7973 1248. Where IET member events cannot be accommodated at One Birdcage Walk, the IET receptionist or sales team, are available to help you find an alternative. They are located at One Birdcage Walk for the duration of the co-location.
A joint members’ lounge has been created at One Birdcage Walk for both IET and IMechE members and features tea and coffee facilities plus provision for a light meal. Complimentary WiFi is available for members within the lounge. Opening hours for the members' lounge are 9:15am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday.
The member business centre is located on the lower-ground floor of One Birdcage Walk and features WiFi, PCs, printers and phones in addition to the four complimentary meeting rooms. The business centre is currently open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday.
A joint IMechE and IET library is now open at One Birdcage Walk and IET members are welcome to visit for quiet study and Internet access as well as to use the collections. The library includes IET library books published in the last two years along with a selection of current journals.
The rest of the IET library collection is being stored securely off-site, and members are able to request items for loan or reference.
All services continue to run as usual including document supply, research services and postal loans. Computers are available providing access to IEEEXplore and British Standards Online, and IET library staff are on hand to answer queries. The library is open from 9:15am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. For more information, please visit the Library and Archives page of the IET website.
The IET's new Archives Centre is now open to members, staff and the public. The Centre is located next to Savoy Place, on the lower ground floor of Savoy Hill House. The address is 7-10 Savoy Hill, London, WC2R 0BU.
Opening hours for visitors will be 10:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
However, visits will need to be booked with the Archives team at least five days in advance, as many of the collections are stored offsite and will be brought back specifically for enquirers.
Anyone interested in consulting archive material can use the online archive catalogue to see what is held in the Archives, and request a visit by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling +44 (0) 20 7344 8407.
