Faraday's first lecture

An online exhibition looking at the life and work of Michael Faraday with particular emphasis on his work as a lecturer, his travels in Europe, his correspondence with artists and his interest in photography.

Notes written by Faraday for the first lecture he gave to the City Philosophical Society. He starts: 'With much diffidence I present myself before you this evening as a lecturer on the difficult, and refined Science of Chemistry...'. As Faraday grew in confidence he relied on brief notes rather that writing his lecture out verbatim (Ref. SCMSS 2/1/3).
