Senior Engineer
Job Summary
The core activity is to provide guidance to Members, others in industry and the general public on matters relating to BS 7671, via telephone, e-mail, or in writing.
Also to act as Secretary and manager to various allocated IEE and/or Joint IEE/BSI committees and the subsidiary Panels. To organize meetings, prepare agendas, take and create minutes, distribute papers, and prepare draft responses to IEC and CENELEC as necessary and carry out the actions as agreed at these meetings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To provide guidance to Members, others in industry and the general public on matters relating to BS 7671, via telephone, e-mail, or in writing.
• To act as Secretary and manager to various allocated IEE and/or Joint IEE/BSI committees and the subsidiary Panels. To organize meetings, prepare agendas, take and create minutes, distribute papers, and prepare draft responses to IEC and CENELEC as necessary and carry out the actions as agreed at these meetings.
• To offer appropriate guidance to, and fully participate in the work of the committees and panels.
• To liaise with team members, senior technical representatives from industry and educational institutions, especially in the contracting sector.
• To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager.
• To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where required.
• To attend appropriate meetings on behalf of the unit or on behalf of the institution as instructed by the line manager.
Other possible Duties and Responsibilities
• To prepare/maintain IEE Guidance Notes and Codes of Practice in line with BS 7671, its amendments and legislation.
• To assist the Chief Engineer in publishing, in conjunction with BSI, the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and its amendments as necessary.
• To assist the Chief Engineer in developing the content of other IEE publications, including guidance material and Codes of Practice, to support use of BS 7671, legislation and industry good practice.
• To assist with the Standards and Compliance unit duties as directed by the line manager.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
• An experienced electrical engineer with expertise in electrical installation practices in the UK, qualified to Incorporated Engineer level or above.
• Excellent knowledge of the UK Wiring Regulations (BS 7671: 2001 incorporating amendments Number 1 and Number 2).
• Sound technical ability to draft technical papers, guidance and interpretation.
• First-rate communication skills to liaise with team members, senior technical representatives from industry and educational institutions, especially in the contracting sector.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Good IT abilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and attitude to support substantial national committee work.
• Must be self-motivated.
Desirable
• Understanding of publication procedures.
• Understanding of standards making activities and roles of CENELEC and IEC.
