Scholarships Account Manager (FTC - 1 Year) (21 Hours per week)

The Scholarships Account Manager will plan, coordinate and implement the IET’s engagement strategy with 500+ scholarship holders.  Taking responsibility for this important group of high performing students, they will ensure that maximum value is achieved from the IET’s £2m investment to support their studies.

Hours: 21 hours per week, exclusive of meal breaks, plus as many as required to fulfill the needs of the post

Band: C             

Location: Michael Faraday House, Six Hills Way, Stevenage

Main duties and responsibilities (Not necessarily in priority order)

  • To manage the range, timing and content of communications to the scholars including HTML, letter, email and social media for 500 scholars throughout their course and beyond and a regular intake of 40 scholars per year;
  • To develop and promote case studies of scholars to promote engineering to others via the press and media;
  • To develop and promote ambassadorial opportunities in schools and elsewhere to the scholars to promote engineering and inspire others;
  • To be a focal point for the scholars interaction with the IET including areas such as Local Networks, Events, IET on campus, Mentoring, Professional Development, Women’s Network, Professional Development Network, My Communities, Academic Partners and Corporate Partners;
  • To organise an annual event for 350+ scholars;
  • To organise and facilitate a series of local events and local meetings based on the geographical spread of the scholars;
  • To promote the benefits of scholar engagement to Local Networks and others throughout the IET;
  • To manage and track scholar access to Career Manager;
  • To manage and track the process leading to IET student membership for scholars, monitoring of their performance during the course and annual payments;
  • To introduce and implement systems for regularly surveying the scholars on their experience of engaging with the IET, including post-graduation, and to analyse the data and feedback responses to relevant areas of the IET;
  • To promote the value of professionalism, engagement with professional bodies including volunteering opportunities and the engineering profession to scholars;
  • To build systems for tracking progress of the scholars during  and after their studies  for at least five years;
  • To provide opportunities for sponsoring companies / corporate partners to engage with the scholars as part of a strategy that leads them towards employment in engineering via support for projects, placements and holiday work experience;
  • To provide support and advice to the Awards and Prizes Manager;
  • To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager;
  • To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties;
  • To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where required.

Person specification

Essential criteria

  • Experience of managing complex administrative procedures;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience of account management;
  • Experience of project planning;
  • Ability to drive projects forward and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to influence and negotiate on behalf of the IET internally and externally.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level standard or equivalent;
  • Experience of Account Management;
  • Experience of working with young people;
  • Experience of the UK Higher Education sector;
  • Experience of working in Engineering or Technology;
  • Experience of event organisation;
  • Experience of social media communications.
