Inspec Indexed Content Indexer (Engineering)

To work as part of the content selection and sampling team, with responsibility for an agreed set of subject areas, ensuring that the appropriate reviewing, selection, and indexing of material is completed for the Inspec Database and its derivative products.

Reports to: Inspec Indexed Content Team Leader

Accountable to: Head of Academic Publishing

Hours: 35 per week, exclusive of meal breaks, plus as many as required to fulfil the needs of the post

Job Summary

To work as part of the content selection and sampling team, with responsibility for an agreed set of subject areas, ensuring that the appropriate reviewing, selection, and indexing of material is completed for the Inspec Database and its derivative products.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To index and select material for the Inspec Database in accordance with agreed policy;
  • To assist with responses to queries sent by the offshore organisations;
  • To assist with the production of derivative products as necessary;
  • To assist the Indexed Content Team Leaders and development teams to maintain and improve the system functionality and the working tools as required (e.g. development of Thesaurus, Classification Scheme indexing schemes, scope notes, etc.);
  • To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of their Line Manager;
  • To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties;
  • To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the company and to attend mandatory updates where required.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Education to degree level in scientific or technical subject;
  • Subject specialist knowledge and expertise;
  • Ability to work closely with both internal and external teams;
  • Able to work under pressure in a complex production environment providing knowledge and guidance, using initiative and decision-making skills;
  • Excellent self-organisational skills;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills;
  • Strong team player;
  • A positive attitude with an eye for accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Able to communicate and liaise at all levels both internally and externally.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Multi-subject specialist knowledge;
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
