IET.tv Business Manager

Taking a customer-centre approach, to realise the potential of IET.tv services and content, delivering projects core to the strategy to commercialise IET.tv activities and provide a high quality service to the internal business owners. To oversee provision of services by IET.tv production staff in terms of workload, efficiency and quality.

Reports to: Head of Academic Publishing, Knowledge Management     

Accountable to: Director of Knowledge Management, Knowledge Management

Hours: 35 hours per week, exclusive of meal breaks, plus as many as required to fulfil the needs of the post

Job Summary

Taking a customer-centre approach, to realise the potential of IET.tv services and content, delivering projects core to the strategy to commercialise IET.tv activities and provide a high quality service to the internal business owners. To oversee provision of services by IET.tv production staff in terms of workload, efficiency and quality.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (Not in priority order)

  • To capture and exploit new business opportunities and maximizing return-on-investment, specifically focusing on creative content development and management;
  • To develop and maintain the flow of content on IET.tv and maintain its editorial integrity, including third party content acquisition;
  • To initiate and manage the IET.tv budget;
  • Work with the Business Unit heads and Product Managers within Knowledge Management to define requirements and create content opportunities;
  • To undertake market research and ensure appropriate marketing of the products and services;
  • To support an integrated approach to content development and delivery across the IET;
  • To provide leadership within the IET.tv team;
  • To manager contracts with suppliers and clients;
  • To undertake any other duties and projects at the request of the line manager;
  • To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties;
  • To be familiar with the Health and Safety and Fire policies for the organisation and to attend mandatory updates where required.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to degree standard or above.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven management and business development ability, ideally within the media industry;
  • Experience in the information industry with particular reference to content commissioning/sourcing/delivery;
  • Conversant with current and emerging Web technologies;
  • Understanding and/or experience, of marketing techniques including social networking;
  • Enthusiasm, drive and a commitment to multi-media content development;
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to work in a team and across multiple teams to successfully achieve objectives within strict deadlines;
  • Professional manner, providing a positive, customer-focused approach to all aspects of the role;
  • Flexible – out of hours working and travel may be required;
  • Proactive and enthusiastic outlook;
  • Accuracy with excellent written English and eye for detail.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Understanding of streaming media operations including live broadcasts, multi-media production;
  • Technical competence with computers, networks and production equipment;
  • Background in engineering and technology sectors served by the IET.
